Life Drawing - Session 3
I felt, again, like I learnt a lot during this life drawing session. My main aim for the next session is going to be bring in the spheres and cubes technique, and use it alongside what I learnt in this session.
The 3rd life drawing session started with the usual 30 second drawings, I feel like these are getting a bit better now but progress is still slow.
One of the techniques we practiced this session was using black chalk in big motions to capture the overall forms of the models body. I don't think this was such a good technique for me, I still need to work on getting proportions right and looking at what I'm drawing.
The drawing above was done with my left hand, which I'm not used to using at all. The idea behind it is because you are less coordinated with your other hand you focus more on overall shape and proportions, rather than getting stuck on tiny details that don't matter.
This was my 20 minute drawing, instead of doing one I did two. I find doing two drawings instead of one helps me more because I can look at what is wrong with the 1st and fix it to make a better result with the 2nd drawing.
My lecturer indicated that I have a habit of over exaggerating things, usually making arms and legs curve un-naturally, as you can see in the arm of the top left (1st) drawing.
The proportions on the 2nd drawing are much more accurate in my opinion, I don't think they match up to real life perfectly but I think its definitely closer than my previous drawings.
This was the last drawing of the session again. Looking at how light hits the model and drawing onto black paper with white chalk. I really like doing this exercise. With life drawing I often need to draw something to test what it looks like, so I like that things can be fixed more easily when using white and black chalk. Out of all the white chalk drawings I've done this is my favourite.
