3D Projection Mapping
During this final term we are going to learn image projection in Maya, we have had a basic overview session and even very basically its been very interesting.
All we were given was a picture of a box, and we had to use this to build up geometry from the photo, then use the image as a texture and project it from the camera. This is a very quick process but the results were impressive for the simplicity of it.
I now intend to take this a bit further, one problem I noticed was that flat geometry looks bad where the texture is obviously more rough, I want to try bump mapping from the texture and see if I can improve the results even further.
Hhere is the testing I did with bump mapping and a slightly more geometry, as well as the original box:
The bump mapped clip is the second one, this didn't work as well as I thought it would but it could probably do with some more tweaking to improve it.
The geometry I added was simple and didn't follow the quads rules, but it did work and I think it improved the effect more.
